Brandy's Third Litter
Stoneridge Koko Raisa Gage, MH X Brandy Bell Bryant
DOB: May 11, 2006
OFA: N/A
Brandy had 12 puppies on Thursday, May 11. It was truly a rollercoster with this litter of puppies. Brandy started showing signs of labor on Tuesday night. She quit eating and drinking, which is pretty normal. She went all day Wednesday without having any puppies. By midnight Wednesday night, we were beginning to worry about her health. Randy was finally able to pull the first puppy at 4:10 AM. By 6:30 she had not had another puppy, so we decided it was time to call our vet. He told us to meet his at the clinic at 8:00. We got Brandy and her first puppy loaded in the back of Tracy's mom's Jeep and headed off. About 5 miles into the ride, Brandy gave birth to a pup in the back of the Jeep. By the time we made it to the vet clinic, she had a third puppy in the back of the jeep in the parking lot. Dr. Hammond gave Brandy an IV, becuase she was dehydrated at that point. We came back home and all seemed to be going well until that afternoon. She had 10 puppies, but she was going almost 2 hours between each puppy. We went back to the vet around 7:00 PM. Dr. Hammond was able to pull the 11th pup. He could still feel a 12th pup, but couldn't reach it to pull it. We brought her home, and she had the 12th puppy at 10:25 PM.
We thought at that point we were in good shape. But Friday afternoon, we started having trouble with one of the puppies. It was barely breathing and very cold. By the time we could get to the vet, we were having to breathe for him. Dr. Hammond gave him a shot of several medicines, and he began breathing on his own again. We brought him home around 9:00 PM. We sat up with him all night Friday night, watching him and bottle feeding him every hour. He made it through the night, and we were able to put him back with Brandy Saturday morning. Again, we thought the worst was over. Around 6:00 PM Saturday evening, another puppy was in distress. He was not breathing good. Another puppy was already starting to show signs of the same problem. We went back to the vet, and got the same shot for those two puppies. In the meantime, the first pup that we had taken to the vet on Friday night had started a relapse. Tracy's parents brought him back to the vet for the same medicine. All three of them made it through the night. Dr. Hammond said it was something in Brandy's milk that had gone bad becuase of the very long delivery time. We had to take all the puppies away from Brandy, and she could no longer nurse them. After we got home, around 9:30 Saturday night, two whole days from the time of the last pup's birth, Brandy had a stillborn puppy. This pup was number 13, and she weighed 1.3 pounds, which is huge for a newborn. Dr. Hammond said that explains why Brandy's milk had become infected. At this time Brandy was doing well physically, but was restless looking for her pups. They could not be returned to her becuase we did not know when, or if at all, her milk would no longer be toxic to the pups.
Maggy was a surrogate mom to 4 of the pups, and took great care of them. The other 7 pups were raised in our home, and bottle fed.
At 4 weeks old the all the puppies had moved out to the big house, so our living room seemed awful empty. The first night that we didn't have to sit up with the babies was a mix of emotions. While we knew they were ready, and did not need us all the time, it was still a scary proposition for us. We were so attached, and loved these babies so much, it was hard to let go. The days that these puppies went to their new homes were definitely the most difficults days we've ever experienced as breeders.

Lucy's Fourth Litter
Crimson's Bodacious Brody X Little Lucy Bryant
DOB: September 28, 2007
OFA: N/A
Lucy had her litter of puppies on Friday, September 28. We have 5 puppies - 2 yellow and 3 black. There is 1 yellow girl and 1 yellow boy, and 2 black girls and 1 black boy.
Each of the puppies in our litters are given nicknames at birth to help us tell them apart while they are here. The nicknames are usually picked from something that is going on at the time of the birth of the litter. During the birth of this particular litter, we were gone on vacation in Jacksoville, Florida, for the Alabama and FSU game. (We all know how THAT turned out.) Lucy decided to have her pups a few days early, and surprise her mom and dad with babies when we got home. That left her grandparents to deliver the pups. As you might guess, they were just thrilled with that chore while we were being lazy at the beach. By the way, have we mentioned how much we love our parents???
Well, homecoming day is over, but not without a few tears and many smiles. JP, little monster that he was, left here weighing 20 pounds 8 ounces. Geez. That's big. The scary part is that his skin was so loose, he's got lots of growing room in there. He is living locally, so we hope to get to see him again soon. Lilly and Francis got the medals for longest distance home - Florida and Maryland. Annie and Jackson are less the 2 hours from here, so there's a possibility we might see them again. 5 more healthy babies raised successfully. Sigh. A great thing to give thanks for on this Thanksgiving Holiday. It's amazing how much of an impact they can make on us in 8 short weeks.

Alley's First Litter
Quick Wheels Herbie, MH X Crimson's Scrappin' Alley Cat, JH
DOB: October 18, 2007
OFA: N/A
Alley had a litter of puppies on Thursday, October 18th. She shocked all of us and had 12 puppies! The highest guess in the family before they were born was 10 by Randy's mom. But none of us would have guessed 12! All the pups were black - she had 6 boys and 6 girls.
Pictures and Pedigrees of both Alley and Herbie can be found on the Our Kids and Our Studs Pages. All of the pups born here at Crimson Kennels are given nicknames at birth to help us keep up with them while they are here. This litter was named after ancestors in their pedigrees.
Well, the first weekend of "homecoming" for Alley's pups has passed. Thank goodness we have two new litters to keep us occupied, or we would have a very sad Christmas. It's so hard to let the pups go, and we always hope we have made good decisions for our babies on who we let adopt them. So, Alley pup owners, please make sure to kiss our babies for us at Christmas, and tell them we miss them. Merry Christmas to you all!

Abby's First Litter
FC AFC Hunting Hills Coriander X Double G Cosmo's Dream Girl, JH
DOB: December 9, 2007
OFA: N/A
Pups were born Sunday, December 9th. We had 9 pups, 6 yellow and 3 black. There were 4 yellow girls and 1 black girl. There were 2 black boys and 2 yellow boys.
As we have mentioned before, all of our pups get nicknames to help us tell them apart while they are here. This litter was named for some of Tracy's relatives. Saturday night the Goins side of the family came over for Christmas. All of the pups were named for family that was at the Christmas Party. There were about 25 Goins kids there, so we had plenty of names to choose from. Since there were only 9 pups, that means we didn't get to use all the names, but we did our best to represent each family. So, for those of you calling me to say "where's my name" (and you know who you are) you know I love you, and come on, gimme a break!
Abby was bred to Cori, who is a Field Trial Champion. Abby has 4 passes toward her Master Title, and will be back in training in the Spring to finish up her Title. Abby and Cori both have excellent pedigrees, and these pups should have great potential for the Hunt Test and Field Trial worlds.
Pictures and pedigrees can be found on the Our Kids page for Abby, and the Studs page for Cori.

Gabby's Second Litter
Stoneridge Dare To Dream, Gunner, MH X Crimson's Gabby Gail, SH
DOB: December 14, 2007
OFA: N/A
Gabby had a litter of black and yellow puppies on Decemer 14. She surprised us all, and had them a few days earlier than we expected. She had a long delivery - 12 hours. She had the perfect combination of male/female and black/yellow. She delivered 2 of each.
As we have said here before, all of our pups are given nicknames at birth. These pups are named for the things that were happening at the time of their birth.
When I first started posting this litter, I said these pups were named for things happening at the time of thier birth. As I posted each pup and told how they got thier names, I realized these pups are named for much more than that. They were named for important people in our lives that mean so much to us. The friends at the Girl's Party, who are always there for us, through good times and bad. The friends at All Animals Veterinary Hospital, who we can't say enough good things about. They too, have been with us through it all - the happiness and heartaches of raising puppies. For us, there is no other choice for the caregivers of our babies. So, this litter is truly the FRIENDSHIP litter. We love each of you, and value your friendships deeply! (Sorry for the sappiness, it must be the holidays!)
Pictures of Gabby and Gunner can be found on the "Our Kids" and "Our Studs" pages.

Hershey's First Litter
Tubby's Maxximum Trouble, MH X Crimson's Chocolate Thunder
DOB: December 31, 2007
OFA: N/A
Hershey had a litter of 7 puppies this morning, December 31st. It was our first litter of "New Year's Eve" babies. We have 5 chocolate, and were very surprised to have 2 yellow.
As mentioned before, all of our pups get nicknames. Now, you would think that with the New Year's Eve Holiday, we would come up with some great names. But, I guess our creative juices are exhausted from all the pups this month, and we just couldn't come up with many good names. So, in honor of Hershey, we decided to go with Candy Bar names.
Pictures of Hershey and Maxx can be found on the Our Kids and Our Studs pages. The picure seen here is the Hershey with her babies this morning.
